Hunting the Hunts…
Hunts of Alcester
Visit to Warwick Record Office 25th May 2010 to search for 2nd great grandmother MARY HUNT and to establish link to her parents suspected to be Richard and Elizabeth Hunt revealed no baptism for Mary in the period of interest and no reference to Richard Hunt at all.
Conjecture: altough Mary consistantly gives her birth place as Alecester in Census Records either the birth was duly recorded, or she was born there and baptised elsewhere. Two Hunt families are living in the area and it could be that her mother went to Alcester for family support for the birth.
Research Question
Previous research has identified that MARY HUNT married JOSEPH MEREDITH on 11th August 1833 (KIngswinford Parish Register). This makes Mary Hunt my 2nd Great Grandmother.
Mary later remarried to Edward Ford on 21st December 1856. This marriage certificate gives Mary’s father’s name as RICHARD HUNT.
From census data there is a Richard Hunt, with his wife Elizabeth living at Halfcott in 1841 and 1851. This would fit the family as living in the area near to Joseph Meredith. Furthermore the census also illustrates that Richard was born in Exhall, Warwickshire, which fits Mary’s birth as being in Alcester, Warwickshire. At least as far as the county goes.
Therefore it is a reasonable assumption that Richard is Mary’s father and that Elizabeth is Mary’s mother.
The visit to Warwick Archives was to confirm this relationship via a search of the Parish Registers for Alcester.
