Lofty’s early years
County archives now confirm that Lofty entered children’s home in January 1921 (his three siblings had been admitted a year earlier). On 8th December 1931 he was moved to Medomsley Cottage Homes from where he was discharged from ‘Daisy House’, to Church Army Training Farm, Hempstead on 25 June 1934. He seems to have been on a month’s trial as he was not discharged from Home No 3 unit 8 January 1931.
